Oh Baby!!!

I love babies! Love them. Their little baby noses and baby yawns. Baby toes and baby soft skin. And they smell so good. Those gummy, toothless baby smiles. It’s enough to get me to daydreaming about hearing the pitter patter of little feet around my own house. But I digress!

This was a unisex shower because the proud parents want the baby’s sex to be a surprise. It’s better than Christmas!!! :)

Here’s to Danielle Lynch, an expecting Haute mom, who allowed me to help her celebrate her arriving bundle of joy! Congrats!

Haute Mom! Haute Birthday

We all love our moms! Where would be be without their unconditional love and support? So when I was asked to make a birthday cake for a very special mom, I was honored to do it! So here’s to a Haute mom, that just loves ladylike things!

This red velvet cake was full of special little details, sugar lace, sugar roses, sugar bows and brooches.

And I have no doubt that it was love at first “bite.” Happy birthday.

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails and puppy dogs tails!
Moons and stars and rockets to Mars!
Bang and boom and uppity zoom!
Hugs and kisses and little boy wishes!!
And THAT’S what little boys are made of!

Do I hear the pitter patter of little boy feet? That would be a definite yes! I had the pleasure of making a Haute baby cake for a very special mom and dad! The world will welcome little boy Simms in August but just this past weekend, there was a very happy shower held in mom and dad’s honor!

People came from far and wide just to celebrate and I’m so happy to have been a part of the festivities!

There’s a boy bun in the oven!

In addition to the “What are little boys made of?” cake, guests had Haute cupcakes to choose from! There was blue velvet (for the boy, of course), orange spice, and a white chocolate with a strawberry and raspberry filling. These disappeared almost instantly!

Time to cut the cake! BTW, it was a lemon cake with a mango/strawberry cheesecake filling. There was also a delicious peace, passion fruit and apricot marmalade in between layers! delicious!!

There are more babies on the way for this couple to be sure! Can wait to meet this little guy though. Until I do…

Inspiration hit and I had to bake. I was feeling particularly springy! Enjoy them! And yes, they taste just and good as they look!

Bad Hair Day… Haute Cake!

It’s every Haute girl’s nightmare. To wake up and the hair isn’t doing any at all that you want it to do. Yep, that was me this morning. Hair wouldn’t curl, would barely lay flat, all kinds of issues were going on. So I put my foot down, bun or hat day. I decided on the bun, but as i got to thinking about things there’s this hat that I love and I thought… Wouldn’t it be pretty to use that as inspiration for a Haute Cake? Yes, it would, I said to myself. (Don’t act like you don’t talk to yourself sometimes.) So I did. Check it out!

Shoe-gasm!!

Now if there’s one thing in the world that I love more than cake, it’s shoes… my boyfriend has officially banned me from the any shoe department for the rest of my life. But that being said, like any other Haute girl, I just stash them in the car and pretend like I’ve had them for years… but I digress.

Brian Atwood

Brian Atwood… thank you. If these leather and raffia sandals don’t make for a Haute cake design, I don’t know what does. Now to hustle up $1,452 and a whole lot of cake flour.

Step into Spring

Dolce & Gabbana BouquetSo I was reading next month’s Elle, with Rihanna on the cover looking über fab and came across this Dolce&Gabbana ad and it got me to thinking about Spring and colors and ultimately… cake.

I love being outside and these colors remind me of cool, fresh, things that will refresh me at classy outdoor fête. I’m completely bananas over the green, and pink is definitely a staple in my makeup bag.

So how to translate into something delectable to put in my belly. I’m thinking a fresh fruits as a main ingredient to provide the sweet and maybe a little mint to make it refreshing. Something like an edible strawberry mojito.

Strawberry Mojito

So while I bake the cake, you enjoy this recipe courtesy of The Berry Bible and the WhiteonRiceCouple.com.

Strawberry Mojito Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces of simple syrup
  • 3 fresh strawberries
  • 4-5 fresh spearmint sprigs (chopped if you prefer small mint pieces)
  • soda water
  • 1/2 line
  • 2 ounces of light rum

Directions:

  1. In a chilled glass (about 10-12 ounces), muddle the simple syrup, strawberries and mint leaves together with the back of a spoon or muddler. Crush the strawberries and mint leaves well.
  2. Squeeze the juice from the lime into the glass, add the rum and stir well. Fill glass with ice and top off with soda water.
  3. Garnish with mint sprigs or strawberry slices.

Simple Syrup Recipe

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 pound of Sugar
  1. Combine water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Heat until sugar is completely dissolved. Set aside to cool. After cool, store in refrigerator until ready to use.

There you go. I’ll be back with the fabulous cake. Showing you how inspiration turns into dessert! Until then…
